MISSION
To connect, support, and inspire a diverse group of local technical learners to excel in technology careers through a programming language agnostic study group.
KEY INITIATIVES
• Free technical study groups
• Online mentoring and code review
• Hack events
• Career and leadership development
MODE
The general focus of the group will be on solving problems from exercism.io and ProjectEuler.
Exercism.io is a platform that provides weekly code problems in a variety of programming languages, but teaches you to solve the problems by using a test-driven approach, and by participating in code review. This is really important practice if you want to have a job as a developer.
WHO SHOULD ATTEND
We welcome many levels of attendees:
• Brand new beginners**
• Coders new to a particular language
• Experienced developers
• Anyone in between
**If you have ZERO experience writing code, but want to learn, please please PLEASE make sure to come to the Setupfest! events, so that we can help you get set up and on your way!
EEK, I’M SCARED
If you don’t know what “test-driven” or “code review” means, that’s OK! That’s what this group is for. Organizers and core team members will be present to help you with questions, and will be the ones reviewing your code and offering feedback.
“Getting feedback on your code” might sound intimidating if you are brand new — but you can be confident that it’s actually a really good thing.
CODE OF CONDUCT
Our Code of Conduct that can be summarized as “Be excellent with each other.” This applies to all levels of communication within the group, including attendees and organizers, during face-to-face events, interactions in code review, and beyond.
